The European Digital Identity Wallet is moving steadily from policy into implementation, but deployment alone will not determine whether it succeeds. The bigger question is whether citizens, businesses and relying parties will see enough value in the wallet to make it part of everyday digital life.

In this episode of Innovating Trust, Steve Atkins speaks with Kristian Thure-Sørensen of IN Groupe about where the EUDI Wallet now stands and what needs to happen next. The discussion moves beyond regulation and technical architecture to look at adoption, interoperability, privacy, security and the practical realities of building trust around a new European digital identity ecosystem.

They examine the role of relying parties, the importance of useful services, the relationship between physical and digital identity, and why selective disclosure and user control will matter if the wallet is to gain widespread acceptance. The conversation also looks at what success should actually mean once national wallets begin to appear across Europe.

The EUDI Wallet may be mandated by regulation, but regulation cannot mandate adoption. Its long-term success will depend on whether it becomes useful, trusted and easy enough to use that people choose to make it part of their everyday lives.
